When I was in elementary school there was a prayer I said every night after my Mom tucked me into bed. It went like this:
Angel of God, my Guardian dear,
To whom God’s love entrusts me here;
Ever this day, be at my side,
To light and guard,
To rule and guide.
I imagine my guardian angel as a benevolent spirit who loves and protects me with a heavenly sort of love. It is this type of love, this “guardian spirit,” that showers upon all of us when we lay down our head and every morning we awake. Even when we feel alone, we can feel confident that someone sent by God is watching over us. But this blog isn’t about our guardian angels. It is about having a similar spirit of love like our guardian angel. I’d like to term it our “guardian spirit.”
I have been blessed to have many loving people around me. People who I love deeply because of their kindness to me or even to others. I grew to love their “guardian spirit.” Even when I was dealing with depression and severe anxiety, my parents, family, and friends were like my guardian angels – with me in my highs and lows. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all took on the role of being a “guardian spirit” for our friends, our family and our community. I am small, but I am not alone and never will be. That’s God’s promise to us. With His help, maybe we can all be “guardian spirits” for not just those we know, but also those we pass by throughout the day.
I hope The Guardian Spirit newsletter I start this summer will encourage people to smile at strangers (you never know if they’ve had a bad day), and spread kindness to others. I look forward to hearing how people spread goodwill and positivity. Everyone has a story! I am learning about some really wonderful movements that I will share with you next time!
I plan on posting here once a week. I hope you will join me on that journey – it’s more fun travelling with friends
Have a Blessed day! YOU are beautiful and YOU are loved. By me dear reader and, even more so, by God!
